LHC Rejects Plea Against Punjab 3-Month Summer Vacation Schedule

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday dismissed a request seeking suspension of the Punjab government’s decision to announce nearly three months of summer vacations for educational institutions across the province.

The petition was filed by the All Pakistan Private Schools Federation, which challenged the official schedule of summer holidays set from May 22 to August 23.

During the hearing, the petitioner’s counsel requested the court to immediately suspend the notification until a final decision on the case. However, Justice Khalid Ishaq declined to grant interim relief and instead issued notices to the relevant authorities, directing them to submit their responses within two weeks.

In its petition, the federation argued that the 90-day closure of schools would negatively impact academic continuity, increase dropout risks, and disrupt examination schedules.

The petition further claimed that extended summer vacations could lead to higher screen time among students and reduce engagement in academic activities. It also stated that prolonged closures may create financial and operational challenges for private educational institutions.

The court will resume proceedings after receiving replies from the concerned departments.
