Pakistan has secured a $320.16 million loan from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) for the reconstruction of key sections of the National Highway N-5 under a resilient infrastructure recovery framework.

The financing agreement was signed by Economic Affairs Secretary Muhammad Humair Karim Kidwai and AIIB Chief Investment Officer Konstantin Limitovskiy. A separate implementation agreement was also signed between AIIB and the National Highway Authority (NHA).

The project covers Phase-IA of the reconstruction of the N-5 Highway, Pakistan’s primary transport artery, which runs across Sindh, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Officials say the initiative will focus on rehabilitating critical stretches to improve durability and long-term performance.

According to authorities, the project aims to strengthen climate-resilient infrastructure, enhance regional connectivity, and support trade and economic growth across the country.

The government described the agreement as another step in deepening cooperation with AIIB and advancing national infrastructure development priorities.
