The Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lahore Electric Supply Company) has uncovered a new method of electricity theft involving the use of remote-control devices to manipulate power meters, officials said on Thursday.

According to a spokesperson, the raid was conducted on the instructions of Chief Executive Muhammad Ramzan Butt as part of the company’s ongoing anti-theft campaign.

During the operation, LESCO teams targeted an industrial connection in Shahdara, where two suspects were allegedly caught tampering with the electricity system using a remote-control mechanism designed to interfere with meter readings.

Officials said the setup caused an estimated loss of around Rs. 6.5 million to the power utility. The raiding team also seized the cable, meter, and transformer from the site, while the suspects were taken into custody on the spot.

LESCO said the operation was carried out by its surveillance, monitoring, and technical teams, who successfully detected the unconventional theft method during routine enforcement activity.

The company has intensified its crackdown on power theft across its service areas, stating that actions will continue without discrimination in order to reduce system losses and improve recovery.

Authorities further confirmed that investigations are underway to determine whether the suspects are part of a wider network involved in electricity theft using similar electronic devices.
