Court records statements, accused presented
ISLAMABAD – The District and Sessions Court of Islamabad on Thursday held proceedings of the alleged murder case of TikToker Sana Yousaf, where the court recorded statements from the victim’s mother and aunt. The accused, Umar Hayat, was produced before the court, while the judge ordered restraint on social media commentary related to the case. Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka heard the case. When the accused was produced, no lawyer appeared on his behalf. The judge asked Umar Hayat about his counsel. The accused replied that his lawyer had told him he would appear. The court then took a break in proceedings until 12 noon. Later, the hearing resumed with the presence of Sana Yousaf’s mother Farzana Yousaf and her aunt Bibi Latifan. Counsel for the accused, Chaudhry Rizwan Ilahi, informed the court that he had received threats through video calls and messages. He said those issuing threats claimed links with Afghanistan and pressured him to withdraw from the case. He added that the threats increased after he approached the High Court. Lawyers representing Sana Yousaf objected and said if threats were made, legal action should be taken. The court also took notice of remarks made on social media by lawyers and directed Sana Yousaf’s counsel to avoid posting unnecessary videos about a sub judice matter. Farzana Yousaf then recorded her statement. She said her son Yawar Yousaf was in Chitral due to summer vacations, while her sister-in-law Latifan was visiting. She stated that around 5:00 pm, a man entered their house wearing a black shirt and blue trousers. She said she and Latifan saw the man fire two shots at Sana Yousaf’s chest. The assailant fled with a pistol and Sana’s mobile phone. She said Sana was taken to hospital in a neighbor’s car, but she had died before arrival. She added that on June 13, 2025, she and Latifan participated in an identification parade at jail and identified Umar Hayat among nine dummy suspects. She asked the court for justice and said such acts posed a danger to young girls. After this, Sana Yousaf’s aunt Bibi Latifan recorded her statement, confirming the sequence of events and the identification parade. With this, the recording of statements was completed.
