Quentin Tarantino confirms script for tenth film but wants to ‘live a little’ first
“I’ve written a script that I really like, but I want to do the play and see who I am,” Tarantino said
Quentin Tarantino has confirmed that he has written a script for his tenth film, but the acclaimed filmmaker is not ready to move forward with the project just yet. Instead, Tarantino plans to focus on his upcoming stage production, spend time with his family and take a break before deciding what comes next.
The Pulp Fiction director shared the update during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show, where he explained that he is happy with the screenplay but does not want to rush into making another film.
“I’ve written a script that I really like, but I want to do the play and see who I am; then I’ll then go back and spend time with my family and live a little and then see what I want to do,” Tarantino said.
The filmmaker has long maintained that he intends to retire from directing after making ten feature films, making the new script a significant development for fans waiting to see his final directorial project. However, his latest comments suggest that production is not imminent, and he has not revealed the film’s title, storyline or potential cast.
Before returning to filmmaking, Tarantino will turn his attention to The Popinjay Cavalier, his upcoming West End play starring Sacha Baron Cohen. The production began as a screenplay before Tarantino decided that the story would work better on stage.
Described as a swashbuckling comedy, The Popinjay Cavalier is scheduled to open at London’s Phoenix Theatre in March 2027, following previews in late February. The production is expected to run for three months, with its closing date set for June 13.
Tarantino’s most recent feature film as a director was Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, released in 2019 and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie. Pitt won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance, while Tarantino received nominations for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay.
Although the script for his tenth film is now written, Tarantino has made clear that he wants to experience life beyond filmmaking before deciding whether to take the project into production. For now, his focus remains on bringing The Popinjay Cavalier to the London stage.
