Oppo Find X10, Honor Magic 9 Series Rumored to Test 100MP Square Selfie Sensor
Recent leaks suggest that several smartphone makers are exploring square selfie camera sensors for upcoming flagships. Earlier this year, reports indicated that Oppo and Huawei may adopt a square front camera design. This change could arrive in future premium phones. Another leak also suggested that Oppo is testing a 100MP selfie sensor for its next devices. Now, fresh information points to a similar direction for Honor as well.
According to the source, the Oppo Find X10 series will feature a Samsung-made 100MP front camera. It is said to use a 1:1 square-format sensor. The sensor size is reportedly 1/2.5 inches. This design may improve framing flexibility for selfies and video calls.
In another Weibo post, the same tipster shared details about Honor’s upcoming Magic9 lineup. The company is reportedly testing a 100MP front camera for this series. The sensor in question is the OVA0B, which measures 1/1.8 inches. It is expected to be cropped into a square 1:1 output format.
Furthermore, a source added more details about the rear camera setup of the Magic9 series. The phone lineup may feature a 200MP main camera. It is also expected to include a 64MP periscope telephoto lens. Multiple 200MP sensors are currently under testing. These include the 1/1.28-inch OV52A and OV52B sensors. A larger 1/1.12-inch OVB0D sensor is also being evaluated.
The idea of a square selfie camera is not entirely new. Apple already uses a similar approach in the iPhone 17 series. This design allows users to take selfies in both portrait and landscape modes. It removes the need to rotate the phone while shooting.
Moreover, a 1:1 sensor provides a wider field of view. It helps users fit more people and background detail into a single frame. As a result, it improves flexibility for group shots and content creation.
