‘Mera Lyari’ film enters the race for Oscar nomination



KARACHI  –  The film “Mera Lyari”, produced under the Sindh government, has entered the race for an Oscar nomination, which the Sindh government has termed a matter of honour. In this regard, an important meeting of the Film Board of the Information Department was held under the chair of Sindh Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon.  The meeting reviewed the progress made in promoting the film industry in the province, ongoing film projects, future strategies, and collaboration with OTT platforms. The meeting was attended by Information Secretary Kashif Gulzar Sheikh, Director General Information Moez Pirzada, Director Films Hizbullah Memon, Board Members Waqas Rizvi, Salim Khan, Ehtesham Ansari, Rab Nawaz, and other relevant officials. The meeting was informed that the first phase of the ongoing film projects under the Information Department has been successfully completed, while discussions are underway with various national and international OTT platforms and related institutions regarding the screening, distribution, and partnerships of these film projects. Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon while addressing the meeting said that the inclusion of the film “Mera Lyari” in the race for an Oscar nomination is a great honour for Pakistan, particularly for Sindh.  He said that if the film succeeds in securing an Oscar nomination, it will mark a historic milestone and showcase the art, culture, and creativity of Sindh at the global level. He said that the government is working to transform Sindh into a strong, modern, and world-class hub for filmmaking, providing local talent with opportunities at national and international levels.
