The Punjab Wildlife and Parks Department has launched the province’s first portable X-ray service for wild animals, aiming to improve veterinary care and diagnostic services at zoological facilities.

A specialised medical team from the Wildlife Hospital at Safari Zoo Lahore recently visited Lahore Zoo, where the new portable imaging system was used to conduct health examinations on several animals.

Officials said a fallow deer and a python were among the first animals to undergo on-site X-ray examinations, allowing veterinarians to assess their condition without transporting them to a separate medical facility.

According to the department, the portable equipment will help speed up diagnosis, minimise stress on animals and reduce the risks associated with moving wildlife for medical procedures.

Authorities said the initiative is expected to enhance the overall standard of veterinary treatment and healthcare services for wild animals across Punjab’s zoos.
