Rebecca Black laughs off Jaafar Jackson’s 2011 ‘Friday’ jab with snarky reply: Just having fun

Jackson referenced Kanye West interrupting Taylor Swift at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards to diss black

Rebecca Black has responded after a 15-year-old tweet from Jaafar Jackson resurfaced online, reviving memories of the intense scrutiny she faced during the viral success of her 2011 single “Friday”.

The tweet was originally posted by Jackson in March 2011, when he was 14 years old. Referencing Black’s sudden fame at the time, he wrote, “Roses are red, violets are blue, if Rebecca Black wins ANY awards, Kanye you know what to do..”

The post appeared to reference Kanye West interrupting Taylor Swift at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. Although Jackson did not specify a particular ceremony, Black later won the “Choice Web Star” award at the Teen Choice Awards in August 2011.

Black, now 28, addressed the resurfaced message on social media with a light-hearted response referencing Jackson’s lead role in the Michael biopic about Michael Jackson.

She later added, “guys i’m just having fun after catching a literal decade old stray

The renewed attention arrives during a successful period for Jackson’s film career. According to figures cited from The Hollywood Reporter, Michael earned $36.5 million during its third weekend in cinemas, bringing its domestic total to $240.5 million and worldwide earnings to $577.4 million.

The biopic also reportedly surpassed the North American box office total of Bohemian Rhapsody to become the highest-grossing music biopic domestically without adjusting for inflation.

Meanwhile, Black has continued building her music career, releasing her 2025 hyperpop album SALVATION and performing DJ sets at major festivals, including Lollapalooza and Stagecoach Festival.
