Marka-e-Haq Square has been officially inaugurated by Maryam Nawaz, formally opening the long-awaited signal-free corridor project at Rawalpindi’s former Kutchery Chowk.

The Rs. 19 billion infrastructure project aims to ease congestion at one of the city’s busiest intersections by introducing flyovers, underpasses, and pedestrian facilities.

During the inauguration ceremony, the Punjab chief minister inspected the newly completed corridor, including the overhead pedestrian bridge and surrounding road network. She also reviewed progress on the Annexe Chowk to GPO Chowk signal-free corridor project.

According to Provincial Minister for Communications and Works Sohaib Ahmed Bharath, more than 200,000 vehicles are expected to pass through the corridor daily after the project becomes fully operational.

The project includes:

• Two flyovers
• Three underpasses
• Modern pedestrian bridges
• Expanded traffic flow infrastructure

Officials said the corridor was completed ahead of schedule despite originally being planned for completion within 18 months.

Under the revised naming plan:

• Kutchery Chowk flyover and underpass are now called Marka-e-Haq
• Jinnah Park structures are named Jinnah Flyover and Jinnah Underpass
• The third underpass has been named Iftikhar Janjua Underpass

Authorities believe the project will significantly reduce travel time and improve traffic movement across Rawalpindi’s central road network.
