KP Launches Digital Driving Licence System to Modernize Services
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has launched a new digital driving licence system aimed at improving transparency and public convenience in licence issuance.
Chief Minister Sohail Afridi inaugurated the Digital Licence Management System under the provincial Transport Department during a ceremony on Tuesday.
Speaking at the event, the chief minister said the initiative introduces a fully digitized process designed to ensure merit, efficiency, and ease for citizens applying for driving licences.
He added that the move is part of broader digital reforms in the province, including e-governance, online public services, and digital payment systems, to modernize service delivery.
Officials revealed that during the pilot phase, a total of 19,966 learner licences and 2,212 permanent licences were issued, generating approximately Rs. 50 million in revenue.
Under the new system, citizens can apply for licences through the Dastak App and a dedicated web portal. The platform also incorporates advanced features such as AI-based facial recognition, online medical certification, QR code verification, and a centralized database to streamline the entire process.
Authorities say the digital system is expected to reduce processing time, eliminate manual inefficiencies, and enhance transparency in the issuance of driving licences across the province.
