Nick Cannon’s controversial dating ‘double standards’ for twin son and daughter spark buzz

‘I am more protective of my daughter’, Cannon explained, adding that his decision is rooted in concerns about safety

Nick Cannon has drawn attention after outlining different dating rules for his 15-year-old twins, according to comments made on the TMZ Podcast.

The television host and comedian said he allows his son, Moroccan, to date, while his daughter, Monroe, is not currently permitted to do so. “My son been dating and I’ve allowed it,” Cannon said. “I’ve encouraged it.”

When asked whether Monroe was given the same freedom, Cannon responded, “No, absolutely not. It’s absolutely a double standard.” He acknowledged the difference in approach, adding, “there is a difference when parenting a son and when parenting a daughter.”

Cannon explained that his decision is rooted in concerns about safety. “I am more protective of my daughter because there’s things out there that I have to protect my daughter from,” he said, referring to risks he believes are more likely to affect girls.

He cited potential violence as a particular concern, stating, “But if somebody puts their hands on my daughter, I’m going to jail.” He described such a scenario as his “worst nightmare” and said the consequences would be severe.

In contrast, Cannon expressed fewer concerns about his son’s dating life. He suggested that issues such as exploitation were less likely, noting his son’s financial security and family background.

Despite his current stance, Cannon indicated that Monroe may be allowed to date under certain conditions. “If she can explain to me what’s going to happen on these dates, then she can go,” he said, describing an agreement between them.

He added that he aims to prepare his daughter for independence, particularly as she approaches college. “Hopefully we’re still having all these open conversations,” Cannon said, emphasising the importance of communication.

The remarks have prompted discussion online about differing expectations for sons and daughters in parenting.
