The 2024–25 audit report found irregularities in the use of more than Rs. 80 million drawn from the Zakat fund in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa across multiple categories.

As per the media reports, a total of 419 government employees from Grade 1 to Grade 17 collectively received over Rs. 5.3 million from the provincial Zakat fund in Pakistan.

As many as 15 employees each received Rs. 30,000, while the remaining 404 employees were each paid Rs. 12,000 from Zakat funds.

The audit identified that 317 federal employees, 33 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 6 from Punjab, 5 from Sindh, and 3 from Balochistan received Zakat payments.

Among those employees receiving payments were two Grade 17 officers, two Grade 16 officers, and 13 Grade 15 employees of government service.

The audit report confirmed that both serving and retired government employees were not eligible to receive the subsistence allowance under applicable Zakat regulations.

Ineligible individuals were paid Rs. 19.7 million under the subsistence allowance category, which auditors identified as a clear violation of Zakat rules.

Auditors also found irregularities amounting to Rs. 42 million in the marriage grant fund disbursed through Zakat committee channels across the province.

A separate paragraph in the audit flagged payments of Rs. 19.5 million in allowances made to 111 government employees.

The Auditor General has directed authorities to recover all funds distributed among government employees who were ineligible to receive any Zakat-related financial assistance.

The audit report also recommended strict action against members of district and local Zakat committees for enrolling government employees in violation of the Zakat Act.
