Anne Hathaway gifted Quran after ‘Inshallah’ remark goes viral

Hollywood actor Anne Hathaway was presented with a copy of the Holy Quran by a fan during a promotional event for her upcoming film The Devil Wears Prada 2, following widespread attention to her recent use of the phrase “Inshallah” in an interview.
The 43-year-old Oscar-winning actor attended the London premiere of the film, marking her return to the screen alongside Meryl Streep. During the red-carpet event, a fan approached Hathaway and handed her the religious text, which she accepted with a smile, thanking the individual for the gesture.
The moment quickly gained traction online, with videos of the interaction widely shared across social media platforms.
Hathaway had earlier drawn attention during an interview with People magazine, where she used the Arabic phrase “Inshallah” — meaning “God willing” — while speaking about her hopes for the future. “I want to have a long, healthy life, Inshallah. I hope so,” she had said.
The remark resonated with many users online, prompting a wave of reactions. Several praised the actor for her composed and respectful response to the fan’s gesture, describing the interaction as thoughtful and wholesome. Others, however, questioned whether she would be able to read or understand the Arabic text, while some criticised negative reactions to her use of the phrase, calling the exchange a simple act of appreciation.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is scheduled for global theatrical release on May 1, nearly two decades after the original film. The sequel will see the return of key cast members including Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci, with Justin Theroux and Kenneth Branagh joining the ensemble.
Footage from the April 22 screening in London shows Hathaway thanking the fan, saying, “Thank you so much. That’s very kind,” before nodding as the individual encouraged her to read the book.
