Players keep exploring Resident Evil Requiem. Meanwhile, a massive new leak just surfaced. It suggests a major addition is on the horizon. Capcom previously confirmed a new story DLC and a mini-game. Now, fresh evidence points directly toward the return of the beloved Mercenaries Mode.

A dataminer named SYRKOV explored the game files. Subsequently, they discovered several unused audio tracks. One specific track stands out. It features prominent clock-ticking sounds. Crucially, these sounds heavily resemble the countdown indicators from past Mercenaries Mode matches.

Capcom already scheduled a major game update for May. Furthermore, Game Director Koshi Nakanishi previously teased a “surprise” mini-game. Because of this new audio leak, fans strongly speculate Mercenaries Mode will drop next month.

If Mercenaries Mode returns, players will expect a strong character roster. Naturally, protagonists Grace Ashcroft and Leon S. Kennedy would lead the pack. However, Capcom might also let fans play as villains. Resident Evil Village previously set this exact precedent. Therefore, players might control powerful antagonists like Zeno, Victor Gideon, or “The Girl”.

Additionally, a classic Easter egg character might join the fight. Tofu, the legendary bean curd survivor, first appeared in 1998’s Resident Evil 2. Leon actually spots Tofu in Resident Evil Requiem while exploring the ruined R.C.P.D. Consequently, Tofu represents a perfect, nostalgic candidate for the upcoming mini-game.

Fans must still manage their expectations. The unused audio tracks could simply remain cut content. Alternatively, Capcom might use them for the upcoming story DLC or a completely different, unannounced mini-game. Nevertheless, franchise history makes the return of Mercenaries Mode highly probable.
