WhatsApp to Add Real-Time Monitoring for Linked Devices

WhatsApp is developing a new feature that will allow users to monitor activity on their linked devices in real time, aiming to strengthen account security and improve user control.

Enhanced Security for Linked Devices

The upcoming feature is part of WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to improve multi-device functionality while addressing growing security concerns. As users increasingly access accounts across multiple platforms, the need for better visibility and control has become more important.

Previously, WhatsApp introduced chat lock support for linked devices, allowing users to secure conversations with a passcode directly on companion devices.

Real-Time Activity Tracking

With the new update, users will be able to see when their linked devices are active without manually checking the Linked Devices section. Currently, users must navigate settings to review active sessions or remove unknown devices.

The planned feature will simplify this process by offering real-time insights into device activity.

Alerts for Simultaneous Usage

WhatsApp is also working on a notification system that will alert users if their account is being used simultaneously on another linked device. This will help users quickly detect unauthorized access.

The alert will only appear when both the primary and linked devices are active at the same time, reducing unnecessary notifications during normal usage.

Improved Protection Against Unauthorized Access

This feature is expected to make it easier for users to identify suspicious activity. For example, if a user receives an alert while actively using their phone, it may indicate that their account is being accessed elsewhere.

Users will be able to manage these alerts through advanced privacy settings.

The feature is currently under development and not yet available for beta testing. Meta Platforms is expected to roll it out in a future update, initially to a limited group of users before a wider release.

The move reflects WhatsApp’s continued focus on enhancing user privacy and security across its platform.
