Kanye West’s Switzerland concert cancelled as FC Basel declines show over ‘values’ concerns

The Basel cancellation follows a series of disrupted appearances across Europe, including the UK, France, and Poland

A planned Kanye West concert in Basel has been cancelled after the host venue declined to proceed, citing concerns over alignment with its values.

The performance had been proposed for St. Jakob-Park, home of Swiss football club FC Basel, as part of the artist’s 2026 tour supporting his album Bully.

However, representatives confirmed the decision not to move forward. In a statement to Reuters, the club said, “FCB received an enquiry and considered it. However, after thorough review, we have decided not to proceed with the project, as we cannot, in accordance with our values, provide a platform for the artist in question within this context.”

The Basel cancellation follows a series of disrupted appearances across Europe.

West had been scheduled to headline all three days of London’s Wireless Festival, but those performances were scrapped after the UK Government blocked his entry into the country.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer commented, “deeply concerning that Kanye West has been booked to perform at Wireless despite his previous antisemitic remarks and celebration of Nazism”.

Further complications have emerged in other countries. A planned show at the Marseille Velodrome in France was postponed, with West stating it was his “sole decision”. French authorities had reportedly explored options to restrict his entry.

In Poland, a scheduled performance at Silesian Stadium in Chorzów was cancelled “due to formal and legal reasons”, following criticism from Culture Minister Marta Cienkowska.

Cienkowska said, “We cannot pretend that this is just entertainment,” adding, “These are not ‘controversies.’ This is a deliberate crossing of a boundary and a normalisation of hate.” She concluded that culture could not “be a space for those who use it to spread contempt”.

Despite the cancellations, West’s tour began earlier this month in California, with further international dates still listed.
