PPP Lahore unveils aggressive roadmap for Local Body polls
LAHORE – The Executive Committee of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Lahore met under the chair of General Secretary Dr. Ayesha Shaukat to review preparations for the upcoming local body elections. Briefing the participants, Convener of the Organising Committee Majeed Ghouri outlined the party’s election strategy and organisational plan. He said the new local body union councils in Lahore are expected to be officially announced on May 27, after which a formal objection period will begin. He stated that PPP Lahore will move ahead with its organisational setup from May 26, covering all ten towns, without waiting for the official notification. Each town will be divided into zones and union councils as part of the party’s grassroots structure. Ghouri announced that PPP will field a 13-member panel in every union council, including candidates for both direct and indirect seats. Overall, the party plans to contest the elections with more than 6,500 candidates across over 500 union councils. He also shared a timeline for election preparations, including organisational appointments, candidate interviews, and submission of ticket applications by the end of June. The party will formally launch its election campaign with a rally at Minar-e-Pakistan on July 25. The meeting was attended by senior party leaders, who reviewed the strategy and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening PPP’s position in the upcoming local body polls.
