Pakistan Railways to Resume Major Train Service After 15 Years

Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi on Tuesday announced that the Bulleh Shah Express service between Kasur and Pakpattan will resume operations on May 28, ending a suspension that has been in place since November 15, 2011.

The announcement followed a meeting at the Ministry of Railways attended by Malik Mohammad Ahmed Khan and Malik Rashid Ahmed Khan, where travel issues and development concerns affecting residents of Kasur district and surrounding areas were discussed.

During the meeting, participants formally requested restoration of the 257-Up/258-Down Bulleh Shah Passenger Train, which was subsequently approved by the railways minister.

The train route will pass through Usmanwala, Kanganpur, Mandi Ahmed Abad, Basirpur, and Haveli Lakha before reaching Pakpattan. Officials said the restoration will provide affordable and reliable transport facilities while supporting economic activity in the region.

In addition, the minister announced beautification and upgradation plans for Kasur Railway Station to enhance passenger facilities. An in-principle approval was also granted to provide a stop for the Tezgam Express at Kot Radha Kishan to facilitate local commuters.

The revival of the Bulleh Shah Express marks a significant step toward improving rail connectivity and regional mobility in southern Punjab.
