‘Heated Rivalry’ in real life? USA-Canada hockey stars face breakup rumours before gold medal clash

Rumours circulating online claim Caroline Harvey and Daryl Watts have split in the midst of the Olympic tournament

Team USA’s gold medal hockey game against Canada has been given an unexpected subplot following social media speculation surrounding Caroline Harvey and Daryl Watts.

Rumours began circulating on Tuesday night suggesting that the American defenceman and the Canadian forward had ended their relationship in the midst of the Olympic tournament. The claims appear to have originated on TikTok Live, although broadcasts are not available for replay once they conclude.

One post on X read, “Wdym kk harvey and daryl watts broke up in the middle of the Olympics…😭😭😭”. Another claimed, “Lesbian couple Daryl Watts and Caroline Harvey broke up before the gold medal game tomorrow.

Additional posts on X continued to amplify the speculation.

Further comments alleged that Harvey had deleted photographs featuring Watts and that Team USA team-mate Laila Edwards referred to Harvey as single in a TikTok comment.

Neither Harvey nor Watts has publicly addressed the claims.

Harvey has been one of the standout performers of the tournament, leading the Olympics in points despite playing on the blue line. Watts, meanwhile, is a forward for Canada and could find herself matched directly against Harvey in key offensive sequences.

The United States defeated Canada 5-0 earlier in the competition, but the gold medal game will define the tournament. Whether the speculation has any basis remains unclear, yet it has added further intrigue to one of international hockey’s most intense rivalries.
