14th Lahore Literary Festival begins today at Alhamra
LAHORE – The three-day 14th edition of the Lahore Literary Festival (LLF) is set to commence today (Friday) at the Lahore Arts Council Alhamra, reaffirming Lahore’s status as a global hub for intellectual and literary discourse. The grand opening ceremony will begin at 2:00 pm in Alhamra Hall No. 1, featuring a distinguished gathering of eminent writers, intellectuals, scholars, researchers, artists, and diplomats from Pakistan and around the world. The inaugural session will include presidential addresses by Zahra and ZZ Ahmed, while Razi Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer of the Lahore Literary Festival, will deliver opening remarks highlighting the festival’s vision, objectives, and global significance. The opening session, titled “Alexander the Great: A Comprehensive Study,” will feature a keynote address by world-renowned classical historian and Oxford University Emeritus Fellow, Robin Lane Fox. Distinguished historian and author F. S. Aijaz Uddin will formally introduce the session. Over the course of three days, the festival will host more than 60 scholarly, literary, and intellectual sessions spanning diverse themes, including history, global politics, diplomacy, culture, fine arts, heritage, film, social sciences, and literature. In a tribute to Pakistan’s rich literary heritage, twelve special sessions will be dedicated to Urdu and Punjabi language and literature.
The festival will see participation from scholars, writers, and researchers from fifteen countries, reinforcing LLF’s stature as a genuinely global literary platform. On the first day, multiple parallel sessions will take place across various halls, covering topics such as the post-World War II global order, South Asian politics, ancient civilizations, the history of Lahore, arts and culture, humorous literature, mushaira, film screenings, literary discussions, and book launches. Extensive preparations are underway at Alhamra to ensure the festival’s smooth execution, with the administration working round the clock to provide participants and literature enthusiasts an intellectually stimulating and memorable experience. The Lahore Literary Festival continues to serve as a credible global forum for dialogue, tolerance, intellectual diversity, and creative expression, further cementing Lahore’s literary and cultural identity on the world stage.
