Billie Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft Tour film delayed as James Cameron explains new release plans

The concert film combines live footage from the tour with advanced 3D presentation and behind-the-scenes material

Billie Eilish’s upcoming concert film, Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D), will no longer be released in March as originally planned.

It has been confirmed that the tour movie has been delayed, with co-director James Cameron providing an explanation for the change in schedule and confirming a new release date. The film, which captures Eilish’s recent world tour using 3D technology, had been set to arrive on March 20 before the decision was made to push it back.

Sharing an update on Instagram, Cameron explained the reasoning behind the postponement, writing, “We’re refining the cut; dialing in cool, new 3D tech; adding some special behind-the-scenes we know you’ll love. HIT ME HARD AND SOFT: THE TOUR (LIVE IN 3D) will now release Friday, May 8th. Worth the wait!” His post included photos of the pair working in the editing suite.

Eilish later reposted Cameron’s message to her Instagram story, adding her own reassurance to fans with the words, “promise it will be worth the wait”. The singer has been closely involved in the project, which aims to offer audiences a detailed and immersive look at her live performances.

The concert film is positioned as a major release for Eilish, combining live footage from the tour with advanced 3D presentation and additional behind-the-scenes material. A trailer for the project has already been released, giving fans an early glimpse of what to expect when the film arrives in cinemas.

The delay comes during a busy period for the artist, who has continued to make headlines beyond her music. Recently, Eilish publicly criticised ICE and the Trump administration in response to what she described as ongoing injustices, drawing attention to political issues alongside her creative work.

Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D) is now scheduled to be released on Friday, May 8.
