Kai Cenat’s reading habits draw online attention and mixed reactions

Cenat’s videos showing him reading slowly have sparked online debate, with fans divided between mockery and support

Kai Cenat has become the focus of online discussion after clips of him reading slowly during livestreams began circulating widely, prompting a mix of ridicule and praise from fans.

The shift marks a noticeable change in direction for the 24-year-old American streamer, whose career has largely been defined by high-energy broadcasts and viral moments.

Known as the most-subscribed creator on Twitch, Cenat has built a massive following through chaotic livestreams featuring celebrity guests, including Kevin Hart, Snoop Dogg, Nicki Minaj, LeBron James and Serena Williams. His recent content, however, has taken a quieter turn, with videos centred on reading, sewing, workouts and listening to music.

On January 14, 2026, Cenat posted a YouTube video titled “I Quit”, which briefly alarmed fans and sparked speculation that he was stepping away from streaming. He later clarified the meaning behind the title, saying, “I quit thinking in my head of the goals I want to achieve and not pursuing them because I’m primarily known for one thing.” In the 23-minute video, he spoke openly about self-doubt and creative pressure. “I’ve to realise that I’m a true creator, and I’m very passionate about creating,” he added. “I have other goals and things that I just want to achieve, and do more of.”

Cenat also revealed a “secret” YouTube channel called kai’s Mind where he has been uploading daily videos for the past two weeks. The uploads show him reading aloud, sometimes for up to 20 minutes, exercising and sewing, often accompanied by captions such as “Reading for 10 mins to help me speak better part 16 1/7/26”.

Reaction online has been divided. Some users mocked his reading pace, with one post stating, “Kai Cenat kept having to look up what certain words meant during his reading journey to become a better speaker.” Others defended his openness, with one response noting, “At least the young man has the character to allow himself to be vulnerable and transparent about his literacy journey.”

Supporters argue that Cenat’s shift towards self-improvement could encourage healthier habits and personal growth among his young audience, even as criticism continues to circulate online.
