‘Harry Potter’ HBO series casts Charlie Weasley, James Potter and Lily Potter
Harry Gilby, Jasper Talbot and Hannah Chinn will portray Charlie Weasley, James Potter and Lily Potter, respectively
The upcoming HBO Harry Potter series has added three new actors to its cast, with Harry Gilby, Jasper Talbot and Hannah Chinn set to portray Charlie Weasley, James Potter and Lily Potter, respectively.
The casting was announced by Variety on October 27, with all three actors expected to appear in the first season, titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.
Gilby will play Charlie Weasley, the eldest son of Arthur and Molly Weasley and older brother to Ron. Charlie works with dragons in Romania in the books, and his casting marks the character’s first appearance in a screen adaptation of the franchise.
Talbot has been cast as James Potter, Harry’s father, while Chinn will portray Lily Potter, Harry’s mother. The characters are central to Harry’s backstory and appear in memories and flashbacks throughout the original books.
The new additions join a growing ensemble for the HBO adaptation, which stars Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. The adult cast includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.
The series is being developed as a faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s book series, with each season expected to cover one of the novels. Francesca Gardiner serves as writer and executive producer, while Mark Mylod will executive produce and direct multiple episodes.
The first season, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, is scheduled to debut on HBO on Christmas Day 2026. The series will be available to stream on HBO Max in territories where the service is available.
