Brand New Day’ earns strong Rotten Tomatoes scores from critics and audiences

The film achieved one of the highest combined Rotten Tomatoes scores of any Tom Holland-led Spider-Man film

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has opened to strong reviews from both critics and cinema audiences, achieving one of the highest combined Rotten Tomatoes scores of any Tom Holland-led Spider-Man film.

The latest Marvel Studios release currently holds a 91% Tomatometer score based on 198 critic reviews, alongside a 98% Popcornmeter rating from more than 500 verified audience reviews.

The combination places the film among the highest-rated entries in the Spider-Man franchise on the review aggregation platform.

The film is set four years after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, with Peter Parker living in isolation after choosing to erase himself from the memories of those closest to him.

As he continues protecting New York alone, the story follows his struggle with loneliness while confronting new threats.

The publication noted that the latest scores compare favourably with previous Tom Holland Spider-Man films. Spider-Man: Homecoming finished with a 92% critics’ score and an 87% audience rating, while Spider-Man: Far From Home received 91% from critics and 95% from audiences.

Spider-Man: No Way Home concluded its theatrical run with 93% from critics and a 97% audience score.

Early reviews have praised the film’s character-driven narrative, emotional storytelling and Holland’s performance as Peter Parker. Critics have also highlighted the action sequences and the film’s more grounded approach following the multiverse-focused events of its predecessor.

While the overall reception has been positive, some reviewers have suggested that the pacing occasionally slows and that parts of the villain’s storyline could have been further developed. However, these criticisms have remained in the minority compared with the broader response.

The ensemble cast includes Zendaya, Jacob Batalon and Sadie Sink, alongside Jon Bernthal as the Punisher and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner. New adversaries include Michael Mando as Scorpion and Marvin Jones III as Tombstone.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has only recently entered wide release, meaning both critics’ and audience scores may continue to change as more reviews and verified ratings are added in the coming days.
