Jennifer Aniston has reportedly withdrawn from Apple TV’s adaptation of Jennette McCurdy’s bestselling memoir I’m Glad My Mom Died, stepping away from a role she had previously described as one she was eager to take on.

According to TMZ, the Friends star has exited the project because of scheduling conflicts.

Aniston, 57, had been cast to play McCurdy’s “overbearing, domineering mother” and was also attached as an executive producer when the project was announced in July 2025.

The television adaptation has reportedly experienced a series of production challenges. 

Puck previously reported that director Jason Reitman left the series following alleged creative differences with McCurdy, who serves as showrunner alongside producer Ari Katcher.

Reports also suggested Apple TV executives urged producers to quickly secure a replacement director or risk the project being suspended indefinitely. Aniston’s availability was reportedly cited as one of the factors affecting production.

Despite her reported departure, Aniston had previously spoken positively about joining the adaptation. Speaking to People in October, she said, “Pretty much immediately intrigued and flattered and excited.”

She added, “It’s going to be wonderful. It’s going to be pretty great to start shooting it.”

Aniston also praised McCurdy, saying, “She is remarkable,” and describing the memoir as “so beautifully written.”

McCurdy, best known for starring in iCarly, published I’m Glad My Mom Died in 2022.

The memoir became a number one New York Times bestseller and details her experiences as a child actor and her complex relationship with her mother, Debra, who died in 2013.

Aniston previously said she felt a personal connection to the story, telling People, “We have a lot in common. We had very similar moms.”
