Shakira shines in halftime show during World Cup final as ex Gerard Piqué gets trolled by fans

Shakira’s performance at the final drew praise following her high-profile split from Piqué who was in attendance

Shakira’s performance at the FIFA World Cup final generated widespread attention as fans celebrated the Colombian singer’s appearance while drawing comparisons with her former partner, ex-Spain defender Gerard Piqué, who was in attendance for the match.

Shakira co-headlined the first-ever Super Bowl-style halftime show during the FIFA World Cup final on July 19 at the New York-New Jersey Stadium.

The 11-minute performance featured a star-studded line-up including Justin Bieber, Madonna, BTS, Gustavo Dudamel and Coldplay, with Shakira also performing the tournament’s official anthem, “Dai Dai” alongside Burna Boy.

Following the performance, social media users praised the singer while referencing her highly publicised split from Piqué in 2022.

One fan wrote, “Shakira has now appeared in 4 World Cups. Gerard Piqué only played in 3. She really won the breakup.”

Others added, “Shakira reminding everyone how much Gerard Pique fumbled the bag! #FIFAWorldCup,” and “After seeing Shakira perform, all I want to say is that Gérard Pique is a f**king idiot.”

Shakira and Piqué were together for 11 years and have two sons. The couple met while filming the music video for “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)”, the official song for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, in which the former Barcelona defender appeared alongside several football stars.

The pair announced their separation in 2022 when the singer accused Piqué of cheating after reportedly discovering someone had eaten her strawberry jam while she was away.

“Dai Dai” marks Shakira’s third official FIFA World Cup song, following “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” in 2010 and “Dare (La La La)” for the 2014 tournament.

The multilingual track blends Afrobeats, dance-pop and reggaetón while incorporating lyrics in English, Spanish, Italian, French and Japanese, continuing Shakira’s long-standing association with football’s biggest tournament.
