World Cup final broadcasts go viral after mistaking Pharrell For A$AP Rocky and Matt Damon for Brad Pitt

Two celebrity identification mistakes during the FIFA World Cup final broadcast quickly went viral on social media

The 2026 FIFA World Cup final broadcast drew attention online after commentators incorrectly identified two high-profile celebrities during the match, prompting widespread discussion across social media.

The first mix-up occurred when television cameras focused on Pharrell Williams in the crowd. A commentator mistakenly identified the Grammy-winning musician and Louis Vuitton men’s creative director as rapper A$AP Rocky before immediately correcting himself.

“I think that’s AKA Rocky, or A$AP Rocky, sorry, I think,” the commentator said during the live broadcast.

The on-air error quickly circulated across social media, with viewers highlighting the confusion between the two artists. Clips of the moment were widely shared as fans reacted to the mistaken identity.

A second error followed later in the broadcast when cameras showed Academy Award-winning actor Matt Damon attending the final with his wife, Luciana Bozán Barroso. A commentator incorrectly introduced Damon as fellow Hollywood star Brad Pitt.

“Brad Pitt also among the fans here,” the commentator said before the broadcast continued.

The mistake also generated online reactions, with many users joking about the case of mistaken identity.

One social media post read, “It’s been a hell of a weekend for Matt Damon. He has #1 movie at the box office, got to attend the World Cup Final, and just got mistaken for Brad Pitt on the TV broadcast.”

The celebrity identification errors occurred during a World Cup final attended by numerous figures from entertainment, sport and fashion.

Guests included Beyoncé and Jay-Z, Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet, while the pre-match and halftime entertainment featured performances from Jennifer Hudson, IShowSpeed, Post Malone, Madonna, Justin Bieber, BTS, Shakira and Burna Boy, adding to the event’s global appeal despite the broadcast blunders.
