Modern Warfare 4 Developer Promises SBMM Transparency

Activision and Infinity Ward recently revealed Call of Duty (CoD): Modern Warfare 4. As the big summer showcases approach, fans finally have a first look at the upcoming game. However, the community immediately focused on one major question. Will the new game feature skill-based matchmaking (SBMM)?

Addressing the CoD: Modern Warfare 4 Matchmaking Controversy

Matchmaking remains a highly controversial topic for the franchise. Black Ops 7 previously faced severe fan frustration over its online experience. Because of this history, players desperately want open-style matchmaking for casual modes. They prefer saving highly competitive matches strictly for Ranked play.

To get ahead of the narrative, Infinity Ward co-studio head Mark Grigsby responded directly to a fan online today. He stated that the studio is preparing to be fully transparent. He promised that all details will be revealed soon. Players reacted positively to this rare acknowledgment. Many gamers expressed hope for a real solution, while others simply appreciated a direct answer from a top studio executive.

The fervor over SBMM continues to drive the shooter market. Previously, Treyarch announced they dumped SBMM before the Black Ops 7 launch, though fans heavily questioned that claim. Similarly, Battlefield 6 addressed the issue before its own launch. They clarified that SBMM forms only one small part of a much larger matchmaking system. Meanwhile, massive competitors like Apex Legends and Fortnite have adjusted their games completely. Based on player feedback, both titles successfully added new game modes that ignore skill-based matchmaking entirely.

Korean Peninsula & Redesigned DMZ Experience

The overarching campaign takes players to the Korean Peninsula. This regional conflict quickly threatens to pull the entire world into war. Furthermore, Captain John Price returns to the franchise. He teams up with Private Park, a South Korean soldier. Together, they must find a solution before the situation spirals out of control.

Naturally, Modern Warfare 4 brings a brand-new multiplayer suite. Additionally, the DMZ mode returns. Infinity Ward completely redesigned this mode. They now call it the definitive Call of Duty extraction shooter experience. Consequently, players will face dynamic weather, new objectives, and hostile forces constantly moving throughout the zone.
