Punjab Govt Likely to Announce Early Summer Vacations Amid Heatwave Concerns

The Punjab government is considering announcing summer vacations for schools and colleges earlier than usual due to rising temperatures and increasing heatwave concerns across the province.

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat said the government is reviewing a proposal to start summer vacations from May 22 and reopen educational institutions on August 2.

Speaking to media, the minister said a final decision regarding the proposed schedule will be taken on May 11 after consultations with relevant departments and a review of the weather situation.

He added that authorities are also discussing the possibility of organizing summer camps during the vacation period.

The development comes after the Punjab Disaster Management Authority issued a weather advisory warning of above-normal temperatures and rainfall during May, June, and July.

According to the advisory, plain areas of Punjab are expected to face an increased risk of heatwave conditions during May because of higher-than-normal temperatures.

Last year, the Punjab government initially announced summer vacations from May 28 to August 14 before later extending the holidays until August 31 due to extreme weather conditions.
