Apple CarPlay Expands AI Features With Grok Integration
Apple rolled out support for third-party AI chatbots in CarPlay with the release of iOS 26.4 in late March. However, chatbot makers also needed to update their iPhone apps before the feature could work properly in cars.
OpenAI became the first company to bring its AI assistant to CarPlay. The company added ChatGPT support in early April. Shortly after that, Perplexity also joined the list of AI chatbots available through Apple’s in-car platform.
Now, xAI has added the same support for Grok. The latest version of the Grok app for iOS now works with CarPlay, making it the third AI chatbot available on Apple’s dashboard software.
Users with the newest Grok app can now talk to the AI assistant directly through CarPlay. The interface also shows recent conversations, making it easier to continue older chats while driving.
In addition, users can start a fresh conversation at any time. CarPlay also lets users mute a conversation temporarily without ending it completely. Another useful feature allows users to choose Grok’s voice directly from the CarPlay settings.
Apple’s latest CarPlay update shows the company’s growing focus on bringing AI tools into the driving experience. As more chatbot developers add support, drivers will likely see more AI-powered features inside their cars in the coming months.
