Shakira unveils official song for 2026 FIFA World Cup

Global pop icon Shakira has officially revealed her new single “Dai Dai” as the anthem for the FIFA World Cup 2026, marking another milestone in her long-standing relationship with football’s biggest stage.
The 49-year-old superstar teased the upcoming track in a one-minute Instagram video filmed inside Brazil’s legendary Maracanã Stadium. The song, which will be released on 14 May, features Nigerian Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy and will serve as the official soundtrack for this summer’s tournament hosted across the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
The tournament runs from 11 June to 19 July and will be the first expanded 48-team World Cup, with Colombia among the participating nations.
Shakira’s Historic FIFA World Cup Song Legacy
Shakira is no stranger to football’s global spotlight. “Dai Dai” becomes her fourth major World Cup musical contribution, cementing her as one of the most iconic voices associated with the tournament.
2010 – Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)
Her most famous football anthem remains Waka Waka (This Time for Africa), the official song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
The track became a global phenomenon and one of the best-selling World Cup songs of all time.
2014 – La La La (Brazil 2014)
Shakira returned for the 2014 FIFA World Cup with La La La (Brazil 2014), performing it at the closing ceremony in Rio de Janeiro.
2006 – Hips Don’t Lie Performance
Although not the official anthem, she performed Hips Don’t Lie at the closing ceremony of the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, further tying her music to football celebrations.
With “Dai Dai,” Shakira once again becomes the soundtrack to football’s biggest spectacle. Given the massive success of her past World Cup songs, expectations are high that the new anthem will dominate charts and stadiums worldwide as fans prepare for the 2026 tournament.
