Multan unveils 11.41-foot chess king, seeks Guinness World Record
MULTAN – The divisional administration has installed an 11.41-foot-tall chess king, weighing approximately one tonne, on Multan Avenue, claiming it to be Asia’s largest single-piece chess king and among the world’s six largest chess pieces. Carved from a single block of polished Gandhara stone, the monumental sculpture showcases intricate stone craftsmanship and is expected to become a major landmark and tourist attraction in the city. Commissioner Multan Aamir Kareem Khan said a formal application had been submitted to Guinness World Records to seek international recognition for the massive chess piece. He said the initiative aimed to bring global attention to Multan’s artistic heritage and distinctive creations while enhancing the city’s cultural and tourism appeal. The commissioner described the chess king as a unique symbol of Multan Avenue, adding that the administration sought to transform public spaces into prominent landmarks and project the city’s identity on the international stage.
The installation is expected to attract visitors, art enthusiasts and chess lovers, adding a distinctive feature to Multan’s urban landscape.
