Nick Reiner granted access to $1.6 million trust fund after complaining about jail conditions

Reiner has pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder following his parents’ deaths on December 14, 2025

Nick Reiner has been granted court approval to access money from his approximately $1.6 million family trust fund to cover jail expenses while awaiting trial over the alleged murders of his parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and photographer Michele Singer Reiner.

A judge ruled on Friday, that successor trustee Jodi Pais Montgomery could deposit up to $300 at a time directly into Reiner’s jail commissary account.

The decision comes as the court considers whether California’s Slayer Statute applies to the trust.

The 33-year-old remains detained at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles. His lawyers previously argued that he had been unable to access funds to purchase basic necessities.

In court filings last month, his attorneys, Anita P. Wu and Geoffrey A. Neri, stated, “Nick still has not been able to access even $5 from his trust to buy basic subsistence items from the jail commissary.”

The Nick Reiner Children’s Trust was established by his parents in 1993, naming him as its sole beneficiary.

His legal team argues that at least $558,000 should have been released when he turned 30 in September 2023.

They also maintain that more than $325,000 originated from his grandfather, comedian Carl Reiner, who died in 2020.

Those opposing the distribution cite California’s Slayer Statute, which can prevent individuals from benefiting financially from the unlawful deaths of those they killed.

Reiner has pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder following his parents’ deaths on December 14, 2025.

Prosecutors allege that the couple were fatally stabbed at their Brentwood home. The allegations have yet to be proven in court.
