Sombr’s outfit at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards has prompted mixed reactions online after the singer arrived wearing a belt emblazoned with the word “SEX”.

Sombr attended the ceremony on September 27 in Los Angeles wearing a long, striped furry jacket, no shirt and black leather trousers secured with the statement belt.

The unusual styling quickly became a topic of discussion on social media.

One person criticised the look on X, writing, “this is not the serve he thought this was”. Another user offered a different view, posting, “sorry yall he ate down 😭”.

Sombr also performed as part of the VMAs tribute to late pop icon George Michael. He joined RAYE and Teddy Swims in paying tribute to the singer, who died on Christmas Day a decade ago.

The singer’s look places him among a long list of artists who have attracted attention for their VMAs fashion choices.

Lady Gaga famously wore a dress made from meat to the 2010 ceremony, while Miley Cyrus drew attention with a revealing Versace outfit when she hosted the awards in 2015.

The 2026 VMAs were hosted by Snoop Dogg at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. 

The ceremony also featured tributes to Dolly Parton and George Michael, alongside the Video Vanguard Award.
