Presley Gerber was in rehab when he died, sister’s comments on journey resurface
Presley Gerber died aged 27 at rehab facility, medical examiner confirms, with cause of death yet to be determined
Presley Gerber was at a rehabilitation facility when he died aged 27 on September 20, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. His cause of death has not yet been determined, as an autopsy has not been completed.
Gerber, the son of model Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber, had previously spoken publicly about his mental health and substance use struggles. He was also the brother of model and actress Kaia Gerber.
His family has asked for privacy following his death. A representative for Crawford, Rande Gerber and Kaia Gerber told PEOPLE, “The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time.”
Kaia discussed her brother’s struggles in her September 2026 Vogue cover story, which described Presley’s experience as a “decade-long struggle with drug addiction”.
“When something like that happens in a family, it kind of levels everyone. I think that’s also why I started to self-identify as the easy one and never wanted to ask for help. Because it felt like too much to have two children who were needing,” she explained.
She continued, “My parents for most of our lives were very, very private and didn’t share anything—and now we have this absolute teacher, my brother, who says, ‘I’m gonna be very human for everyone.’ There’s only so much you can hide from the world. And trying to put a lid on something just makes the person feel like you’re ashamed of them.”
The Vogue profile also said Kaia was “deeply proud of him”.
Presley was charged with a DUI in December 2019. In later years, he discussed his mental health publicly and began sharing “Mental Health Mondays” videos on Instagram.
“Having struggled with mental health, depression and some other things that come along with that, I think that whether I help one person or a hundred people get out of that place that I was in at one point in my life, that’s all I need to do,” he said on the Studio 22 podcast.
In December 2025, Presley also discussed several medications he had been prescribed for panic attacks in a since-deleted Instagram video.
