Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is expected to add 16 Boeing aircraft to its fleet as the government pushes ahead with plans to modernize the national carrier and expand its operational capacity.

The development came after Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met senior Boeing officials at the company’s headquarters in Washington, where discussions focused on aircraft acquisition and commercial arrangements for PIA.

The meeting was attended by Boeing Global President Brendan Nelson and representatives of PIA’s new management, reflecting the government’s efforts to strengthen the airline’s operations through fleet renewal.

During the talks, both sides reviewed various aircraft procurement options and explored financing and commercial terms aimed at securing a competitive agreement for the national airline.

Officials said the discussions resulted in significant progress, with both parties agreeing to accelerate the process toward finalizing the proposed deal.

Naqvi thanked Boeing for its commitment to supporting the acquisition process and appreciated the company’s longstanding role as one of the world’s leading aircraft manufacturers.

The planned addition of 16 aircraft is expected to enhance PIA’s operational efficiency, expand its route network, and improve passenger services. The fleet expansion is also viewed as an important step in the airline’s broader restructuring and modernization strategy aimed at restoring competitiveness in domestic and international markets.
