No Telecom Installations Without Owner Consent, Says Azam Tarar

Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar has said that no installation can be carried out on private property without the consent of the property owner, as he moved to address controversy surrounding the Pakistan Telecommunication Amendment Bill.

Addressing a press conference, the minister said there was no evidence that the proposed legislation favored any particular company, describing such allegations as baseless.

He said the fundamental right to property ownership faced no threat under the bill. He added that courts would have removed any ambiguity in the proposed law had one existed, noting that the legislative process was still under way and the bill had not yet been passed.

The law minister said Pakistan was moving toward a digital economy and that digital connectivity was essential for educational purposes and freelancing.
