The Japanese actor has been referred to prosecutors following allegations of assault involving his former girlfriend

Japanese actor Nijiro Murakami has been referred to prosecutors following allegations that he assaulted his former girlfriend during multiple incidents at his home in Tokyo, according to reports.

The Alice in Borderland actor is under investigation over alleged incidents that took place between March and May 2024 at his residence in Tokyo’s Shibuya district.

According to reports by Nikkan Sports, Murakami allegedly assaulted the woman on four occasions during that period. The allegations include claims that he punched her, pulled her hair and slammed her head against a window. The reported injuries were said to have required more than one month to heal.

The case was initially investigated by Tokyo’s Harajuku Police Station before being referred to prosecutors for further investigation after the woman filed a complaint detailing the alleged abuse.

Murakami reportedly acknowledged causing injuries to the woman during the investigation. In a reported statement, he said, “There is no doubt that I injured her.”

At the time of publication, neither Murakami nor his management agency had issued a further public statement regarding the allegations or the referral to prosecutors.

Murakami has become one of Japan’s best-known actors internationally following his role in Netflix’s Alice in Borderland. He is also scheduled to appear in Strange – Junji Ito’s Strange Stories That Keep You Up at Night, which is due to premiere on July 3.

There has been no announcement regarding whether the upcoming project will be affected by the ongoing legal proceedings. The case remains under investigation, and prosecutors will determine whether formal charges will be pursued.
