The Punjab Food Authority sealed eight food points and production units and imposed fines totaling Rs1.12 million on 75 businesses during a district-wide enforcement drive, officials said Thursday. A PFA spokesperson said the operation was carried out on the directives of Director General Syed Musa Raza.

Inspection teams disposed of over three maunds of adulterated milk along with large quantities of expired and banned food ingredients during the crackdown. Officials said expired products were found stored alongside fresh stock at several locations, while multiple units were operating in unhygienic conditions marked by rusted machinery, broken floors, and missing traceability records and other mandatory documentation.

The spokesperson said action against the sale of substandard and expired food items would continue to ensure the provision of safe and quality food to consumers across the district. The drive is part of a sustained, intensifying campaign Musa Raza has overseen across Punjab in 2026. A similar operation in May sealed eight food units across Iqbal Town, Inner Lahore, and Multan Road, where teams confiscated nearly 200 kilograms of rotten tomatoes, over 80 kilograms of insect-infested pulp, and more than 40 kilograms of expired products, including rotten tomatoes found stored alongside fresh produce at a ketchup and sauce manufacturing facility.

A separate April raid in Raiwind led to the closure of a KFC after a 15-point inspection. According to figures cited by Director General Asim Javaid earlier this year, PFA inspections rose 105% in 2025 compared to the previous year, with more than 1.35 million food points checked, 309 million liters of milk tested, and 1,068 FIRs registered against the milk adulteration network across the province.

The crackdown also follows a separate, larger seizure earlier in June, when PFA confiscated 33,750 kilograms of expired items from another restaurant’s warehouse in Lahore, and an earlier action in which 21,000 kilograms of fat and dead chicken were seized from another facility.
