ISLAMABAD – Renowned ghazal maestro and “Shahenshah-e-Ghazal” Mehdi Hassan Khan was remembered on his 14th death anniversary on Saturday, as fans and members of the media paid rich tribute to his unmatched contribution to music.  With his soulful voice that touched millions of hearts, Mehdi Hassan Khan, the legendary “Shahenshah-e-Ghazal,” was born on July 18, 1927 in India. His journey into music began in 1957 when he got the opportunity to sing on Radio Pakistan, where he initially performed as a Thumri singer before rising to become one of the greatest ghazal voices of the subcontinent, Media channels reported. Through his unforgettable melodies that continue to resonate across generations, he was honoured with Pakistan’s highest civil awards including Nishan-e-Imtiaz, Hilal-e-Imtiaz, Tamgha-e-Imtiaz and Pride of Performance in recognition of his extraordinary contribution to music and culture, while his golden voice enriched over 300 films throughout his illustrious career, leaving behind a timeless musical legacy that continues to inspire artists and listeners alike.           The legendary singer breathed his last in 2012 in Karachi after a prolonged illness, bringing an end to an era but leaving behind a voice that still lives on in the hearts of his admirers.
