Nedra Talley Ross, last surviving member of The Ronettes, dies aged 80

She rose to prominence alongside her cousins Ronnie Spector and Estelle Bennett, as a member of the 1960s girl group

Nedra Talley Ross, the final surviving member of the 1960s girl group The Ronettes, has died at the age of 80.

Her family confirmed she passed away peacefully on Sunday morning at home, surrounded by loved ones. The announcement was later shared publicly, prompting tributes to the singer’s life and legacy.

A statement on the group’s official Facebook page read, “It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Nedra Talley Ross’ passing. She was a light to those who knew and loved her.”

The message continued, “As a founding member of The Ronettes, along with her beloved cousins Ronnie and Estelle, Nedra’s voice, style and spirit helped define a sound that would change music. Her contribution to the group’s story and their defining influence will live forever.”

Her daughter, Nedra K. Ross, also confirmed the news, stating: “At approximately 8:30 this morning our mother Nedra Talley Ross went home to be with the Lord. She was safe in her own bed at home with her family close, knowing she was loved.” A cause of death has not been disclosed.

Talley Ross rose to prominence alongside her cousins Ronnie Spector and Estelle Bennett, forming one of the most recognisable acts of the era. Known for their distinctive harmonies and visual style, the group achieved major success in the early to mid-1960s.

Their hit song “Be My Baby” was later inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999, while other singles including “Baby, I Love You” and “Walking in the Rain” achieved chart success. Their debut album, Presenting the Fabulous Ronettes, was released in 1964.

The group disbanded in 1967 but remained influential in both music and fashion. Talley Ross is survived by her four children.
