Christopher Meloni has addressed the cancellation of Law & Order: Organized Crime, marking the end of his full-time return as Detective Elliot Stabler.

The series has been cancelled after five seasons, bringing to a close Meloni’s latest chapter in the long-running Law & Order franchise.

While he may still appear in guest roles on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, the decision ends his regular portrayal of the character he first played in 1999.

Responding to the news, Meloni shared a message with fans via social media. “I just saw that they announced ‘Organized Crime’ won’t be coming back. I wanted to take this moment to say thank you to the fans who not only helped give the character of Elliot Stabler life and longevity, but for sticking with him and welcoming him back. It was a good ride,” he said.

He added, “I had a great time playing him. It was a great ride. Thank you. You helped give me a career that I never dreamed of, nearly 17 odd years.”

Meloni originally starred alongside Mariska Hargitay in Special Victims Unit from its debut in 1999 until his departure in 2011. His return to the franchise in 2021 saw him reprise the role while leading the spin-off series Organized Crime.

The show aired on NBC for its first four seasons before moving to Peacock for its fifth season in 2025. Despite the platform shift, the series will not continue beyond its current run.

Special Victims Unit is expected to return for its 28th season, continuing the broader Law & Order universe.
