Art exhibition highlights creativity, social expression on World Art Day
BAHAWALPUR – On the occasion of World Art Day, a vibrant art exhibition and special ceremony were organised at Rashidia Auditorium by the Punjab Council of the Arts. The event drew a large number of scholars, writers, journalists, social figures, students, and art enthusiasts. The ceremony was presided over by Director of Arts Council Bahawalpur Dr Nasir Hameed, who in his address highlighted that the purpose of celebrating World Art Day is to promote fine arts, encourage creativity, and nurture positive thinking in society. He emphasised that art is a hallmark of a civilised society and that providing platforms for the younger generation to express their creative potential is the need of the hour. He further noted that art not only enhances aesthetic sensibilities but also plays a vital role in reflecting social issues and raising awareness. A major highlight of the event was the exhibition of artworks by renowned artist Najia Sarwar, presented under the theme “The World is in a State of Transition: The Body as a Medium of Expression.” Her work, characterised by a striking blend of colours, thematic depth, and strong social commentary, received widespread appreciation from attendees.
The displayed artworks effectively portrayed contemporary realities, human emotions, and social transformation, capturing the attention of visitors throughout the exhibition.
The event was attended by several distinguished personalities, including Dr Shahzad Rana, Abid Hassan Rizvi, Anwar Giriwal, Junaid Nazir, and Malik Allah Bakhsh Kulyar, alongwith other prominent figures from literary, media, and social sectors. Students and faculty members from the Department of Fine Arts, Women University Bahawalpur also attended in large numbers and showed keen interest in the artworks on display. Speakers at the event emphasised that art plays a crucial role in promoting social awareness, preserving cultural heritage, and fostering positive values. They urged the Arts Council to continue organising such literary and cultural programmes to provide more opportunities for young talent to flourish.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, participants toured the exhibition in detail and appreciated the efforts of the organisers, expressing hope that such meaningful and high-quality events would continue to be held regularly in Bahawalpur.
