Shamyl Hussain Enters History Books with Back-to-Back Fifties


Quetta Gladiators secured their first Pakistan Super League (PSL) points as young batter Shamyl Hussain recorded consecutive half centuries during a 40-run victory over Hyderabad Kingsmen.

The 21 year old left hand batter scored a match-winning 54 runs from 41 balls at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, following his rapid debut fifty earlier this week tournament.

The stylish opening batter became the first Pakistani batter to register two half centuries in his first two innings in the PSL competition, setting a new league record history.

Quetta Gladiators were reduced after dismissals of Saud Shakeel and Rilee Rossouw before Hussain built an 89 run partnership with Hasan Nawaz, who scored 53 runs.

His debut innings against Karachi Kings produced 52 runs from 24 deliveries including five boundaries and four sixes, although Quetta lost match by 14 runs.

Hussain entered the PSL in strong domestic form, registering six consecutive scores above fifty across formats, including a notable performance in the President’s Cup competition.

He made his international debut in an ODI series against Bangladesh and said he remains focused on improvement as Quetta prepare for their next fixture.
