Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved mandatory electronic tagging (e-tagging) for all vehicles, including motorcycles, across the province as part of enhanced security measures.

The decision was taken during a high-level law and order meeting, where officials briefed the chief minister on plans to strengthen vehicle monitoring and surveillance systems. Authorities have been directed to implement province-wide installation of e-tags and submit a comprehensive micro-security plan within seven days.

In addition to vehicle e-tagging, the meeting approved the establishment of a Punjab Cybercrime Investigation Unit, including a dedicated cell to assist women and children affected by online crimes. District-level online crime centers will also be set up, and approval has been granted for the appointment of a head of the new unit.

The chief minister further directed authorities to tighten monitoring at non-traditional provincial entry points and approved installation of searchlights at key routes. Drone surveillance systems will be deployed, rooftop monitoring at check posts will be implemented, and advanced drone defense systems will be procured.

Authorities were also instructed to continue combing operations against criminals and suspected militants. Riot Management Police will receive enhanced training and modern equipment, while security SOPs for Youm-e-Ali will be formulated in consultation with religious scholars.
