Met Office Predicts Ramadan 2026 Start Date Pakistan

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast that Ramadan 1447 Hijri is likely to begin in Pakistan on February 19, 2026, as astronomical data indicates a strong probability of moon sighting on the evening of February 18.

According to the Met Office, the new moon will be born on February 17 at 5:01 PM (PST). By sunset on February 18, the crescent will be approximately 25 hours and 48 minutes old, with a 59-minute gap between sunset and moonset, making it visible to the naked eye, especially in coastal regions. Weather conditions are also expected to be clear to partly cloudy, supporting favorable sighting chances.

Earlier, Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) issued a similar assessment, stating that key astronomical parameters indicate a very bright chance of crescent visibility on February 18. Based on these calculations, the first fast is expected on February 19.

However, officials reiterated that the final and official announcement will be made by the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee after collecting verified testimonies from across the country.

The start of Ramadan marks the beginning of a sacred month for Muslims, observed through fasting from dawn to sunset, increased prayers, and charity. In Pakistan, moon sighting is both a religious and national event, with central and zonal committees convening to confirm the crescent.
