Control Resonant Gameplay Unveiled! New Abilities & Weapons

Remedy Entertainment has officially debuted a new gameplay trailer for the upcoming Control Resonant during the recent February State of Play. Following its initial reveal at the 2025 Game Awards, this extended look provides a deeper insight into the sequel. It confirms that the game will launch in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Dylan Faden Takes the Lead in Control Resonant

Unlike the 2019 original, where players controlled Jesse Faden, Control Resonant places her brother, Dylan Faden, in the protagonist role. The story features a city-wide paranatural invasion in New York City. Specifically, the new trailer highlights Dylan’s journey through the “West Incursion Zone” in Manhattan.

In this zone, gravity-affecting anomalies cause architecture to fold in on itself. Consequently, Dylan utilises unique traversal mechanics to navigate. The “Reach” ability allows players to teleport to new structures. Furthermore, the “Shift” ability lets players redirect gravity and walk along the surfaces of upside-down buildings. This mechanic draws comparisons to the Gravity Rush series.

Melee Combat & The Aberrant

The sequel places a significantly greater emphasis on melee combat than its predecessor. Dylan wields a shapeshifting weapon called the “Aberrant”. Similar to the Service Weapon, it changes forms on the fly. The trailer showcased the Aberrant transforming into:

  • A large single-blade
  • Dual daggers
  • A pair of fists
  • A gigantic hammer
  • A sweeping scythe

Control Resonant Gameplay Unveiled New Abilities Weapons 2026 Release Window

Senior Game Designer Sergey Mohov confirmed via the PlayStation Blog that more forms will appear in the final game. Additionally, players can expect a loadout system for deeper customisation, allowing them to equip various weapon forms and abilities before battle.

The Hunt for Resonants

Dylan’s primary mission involves hunting “Resonants”. These enemies are the corrupted remnants of people who once held great power. Gameplay-wise, Resonants serve as major boss fights. Each possesses a distinct visual design and moveset.

Upon defeating a Resonant, players earn new combat abilities. While the game is not fully open-world, Mohov stated it features large, distinct zones filled with side activities and hidden encounters. The West Incursion Zone is just one example of these expansive areas.
