ISLAMABAD – Renowned actor, broadcaster and producer Zia Mohyeddin was remembered on his third death anniversary on Friday, as media outlets and admirers paid tribute to his remarkable contributions to the arts and cultural landscape. Media, fans and colleagues paid rich tributes to Zia Mohyeddin, remembering his commanding voice, intellectual brilliance and unmatched contribution to the performing arts. Social media platforms were filled with heartfelt messages, as admirers recalled his timeless work on stage, television and film, vowing that his legacy will continue to inspire generations to come. Born on 20 June 1931 in Faisalabad, Zia Mohyeddin rose to prominence with his groundbreaking Pakistan Television program, The Zia Mohyeddin Show, which first aired in 1969 and set new standards for intellectual discourse and artistic presentation on national television, media channel reports said. A towering figure of stage and screen, he captivated international audiences by originating the role of Dr Aziz in the stage adaptation of a passage to India and further etched his presence in cinematic history with his appearance in the epic film Lawrence of Arabia. In recognition of his extraordinary services to the performing arts, he was honoured with the Hilal-i-Imtiaz, Sitara-i-Imtiaz and the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award. He passed away in Karachi on this day in 2023 at the age of 91, leaving behind a legacy that continues to illuminate Pakistan’s cultural and artistic heritage.
