Karachi Police to Launch Mobile App for On-the-Spot E-Challans
Karachi police are set to expand the city’s e-challan system by introducing a mobile application that allows traffic violations to be reported directly by officers on duty.
Currently, traffic fines in Karachi are largely issued through the Safe City surveillance system. The new initiative, however, will enable officers to capture violations directly from the streets, making the enforcement process faster and more transparent.
Authorized police officers will install the app on their personal smartphones. During duty hours, if an officer observes a traffic violation, such as illegal parking, jumping a signal, or reckless driving, they can take a photograph of the vehicle using the app.
The image and details are immediately sent to a central traffic e-challenging officer, who will review the case. Once verified, the system issues an e-challan automatically, which includes the identity of the reporting officer, ensuring accountability and transparency.
Police officials said the app is currently in its trial phase, with plans to expand its use citywide after successful testing. This step reflects the department’s efforts to modernize traffic management and reduce on-road violations efficiently.
A senior traffic official said that by combining mobile reporting with the existing Safe City system, we aim to make traffic enforcement faster, fairer, and more reliable.
